A grape variety is a vine variety. There is a multitude of them which are characterized by physical and gustatory particularities. How can we tell them apart? The Grenache blanc is mainly planted in the south of France where it rubs shoulders with its cousin the Black Grenache. Its bunches are rather large and its very sweet berries are of medium size. This sweetness makes it possible to produce natural wines with a nice roundness and a long finish like Rivesaltes. Grown in dry soil, the Grenache gris does not fear either the wind or the long periods of drought.
The Macabeu, of Catalan origin, is recognizable by its large clusters and medium-sized berries. Vigorous and productive, this variety produces fruity wines with low acidity. The Mourvèdre is a Spanish grape variety, which can be combined with other grape varieties such as Grenache and Syrah. The wine made with this variety is rich in aroma, low in acidity and has a good quality tannic structure.
The Syrah is a black grape variety found in Provence, Languedoc-Roussillon and Southwestern France. As for the Roussanneis a white grape variety that can also be found in Savoie. Syrah needs soil rich in trace elements to feed itself. In this way, this grape variety can produce bunches of a beautiful bluish-black color with medium-sized berries.
The Carignan needs warmth and sunshine which it can find in the Languedoc region. It appreciates dry and not very fertile soils, which allows to offer a generous and powerful wine at the same time.
The Chardonnay is a white grape variety from Burgundy. Its golden grape offers great white wines with varied aromas of citrus and dried fruits. As for the Viognieris appreciated for its aromas of lime, apricot and almond blossom.
